Live@5

We had our Live@5 group on Monday and I'm just having a go now at finishing off the weather map on AfterEffects. I think it went O.K, considering we were the first group on and we had only had one AfterEffects workshop. Dan was made producer of our group and had to liaise between the Broadcast Journalist group and us guys. In the morning we were approached by the weather man for Live@5 and were asked to produce a weather map. He gave us the script for it and we told him a specific time that we thought the map would be ready. Dan then assigned each one of us a separate job, I ended up photoshopping a surfboard to go on the weather map. As none of us had any knowledge with AfterEffects it was whoever who picked the short straw to animate it. We pretty much nominated Dan to tackle it, as he is pretty good with Maya so we thought it would be somewhat transferable. He wrestled with it for a while, and then I attempted to finish it off as Dan was looking pretty stressed. At around 2pm (2 hours after we said the map would be ready) we surrendered and gave the half finished weather map in. It looked pretty good, but we were all gutted that we couldn't finish it in time. As it was the only the second week of Live@5, we think the Broadcast Journalist's may have been having a hard time, as that was the only graphic we were asked to produce on the day. Having said that we assumed we would be asked for more so Dan already had an Aston he had made, which I then put the text on. This was used in the final show which was really cool, and we got lots of compliments for the look of it; which I was happy about. As well as that Aston's, Sam was working on a sports table with Rozi which was looking pretty nice at the end of the day. All in all I think it went alright, but it would have gone a lot more smoothly had we have had more AfterEffects knowledge. On a personal note, I think the group was ace but I think someone else should have been producer as Dan was the only one who had lots of computer skills, which could have been utilized more had he not been stressing out about being a producer!
Anway, here are a few snaps of the Aston and a screen shot of the weather map!
